How to Win Friends and Influence People
Six Ways to Make People Like You.
Rule 1: Become genuinely interested
in other people.
"Do this and you will be welcome anywhere."
"You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other
people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in
you."
"Ask questions to other people, questions that they would enjoy
answering."
- Dale
Carnegie
Reflection: This rule is saying that
in order for someone or something to have a lot of friends you need to be
interested in the person or thing you are trying to befriend. Such as asking
questions, also to be very welcoming to one. Trying to be very open minded
towards the person’s thoughts or feelings. If you are the opposite you will
lack friends and or lack social skills. If you do the opposite of what the book
tells you to do, you will not have success in having or finding friends because
you will not be able to withstand the person or yourself.
Rule 3: remember names
"A man’s name is to him the sweetest and most important sound in
any language"— Author Unknown
"If you don’t remember names you are headed for trouble." — Author Unknown
“Words have meaning and names have power.” — Author Unknown
Remembering
a person's name is something everyone should do when they meet someone knew. It
shows that they are forgettable and made an impression on you. You should also
remember their name so you could be able to call them or talk to someone else
about them. To apply this to myself I will practice saying a person's name
several times and make sure to connect their face to their name.
Tips: You can remember names by spelling it out, associate with that person, meet and repeat, and choosing to care.

Rule
4: Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
"If you aspire to be a good
conversationalist, be an attentive listener."- Unknown
"It takes a great man to be a good
listener." - Calvin Coolidge
"Remember that the man you are
talking to is a hundred times more interested in himself and his wants and his
problems than he is in you and your problems"
Reflection:
To be a good listener you need to be interested in the person rather than talk
just about yourself. You need to make the person understand that you want to
know them for who they are and you want to learn more about them and their past
life. To be a good listener you need to be very open in opinions and in
thoughts or ideas of the other persons beliefs or ideas. You cannot be negative
towards the person because that is when the other doesn't feel comfortable with
you or being around you. In order to make friends you need to be very heartfelt
and welcoming.
rule 5: talk in items of the other person's interest
"the
royal road to a man's heart is to talk to him about the things he treasures
most."
“One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually
listening to what another has to say.”
-Bryant
H. McGill
I believe
this is important to communicate with others because you want the other person
to feel important. but i believe you cant force interest in others, if you dont
care about what they have to say why are you even speaking to them. you need to
make sure youre showing interest because you actually do care. dont waste youre
time trying to be someone youre not. although, you do need to be respectful to
people that want to talk to you.
Rule 6: Make the other person feel important--and do
it sincerely.
"The
desire to be important is the deepest urge in human nature."
-
John Dewey
"Helping
people feel important and appreciated works magic’
- John Dewey
"Love
is when the other person's hapiness is more important than your own."
- H.
Jackson Brown, Jr
Reflection: In order to befriend someone you need to
set all your attention to them. Such like making them feel important. To be
very interested in the other person as in what they like and what they don't
like . To be interested in there behavior and how they act. To make them feel
better about themselve. Also to have a positive attitude towards rather than
having a negative one.
Reflection:
The ways to make people like
you is a very important set of rules because it changes the way you are as a
person. You become a better person. Also you communicate way better to others
rather than being shy. You become a better care giver. Tend to be very caring
to others and about yourself. Then become very open minded to others their
opinions. The ways to make people like you will be implied in my life because
it will help communicate with others and to help me not be very shy. I feel like these 6 ways can really improve my communication
skills. its also a good way to advance in the professional world such as a work
environment. when i want to establish a connection with a client or coworker i
can use these skills to help me. i will commit to using these skills more often
so it becomes a natural habit/ second nature. making everyone feel important
and genuinely caring for them is very important in a friendship.
